CALIBRATION OF pH METER (Make: Thermo Orion)

  • OBJECTIVE:
  • To lay down the procedure for calibration of pH meter (Make: Thermo Orion)
  • SCOPE:

This SOP is applicable to the procedure for calibration of pH meter (Make: Thermo Orion) at {Company Name} {Location}.

  • RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Officer/Executive/Designee Quality Control – Shall be responsible for operation as per SOP.
  • Head/Designee Quality Control – Shall be responsible for ensuring compliance as per SOP.
  • ACCOUNTABILITY:

             QA Head shall be Accountable for implementation of SOP.

  • PROCEDURE:
    • Press POWER key and operate the instrument as per the SOP.
    • Press Cal key to begin calibration.
    • Place the electrode and ATC probe into the first buffer which has transferred from mother container to cleaned dried beaker. The neutral buffer pH 7.00 is usually recommended to be used first followed from lowest to highest pH.
    • The display shows the reading of CAL 1 (7.00 pH)
    • Press CAL key after the reading of CAL 1 becomes ready.
    • Place the electrode in 2nd buffer.
    • The display then shows Cal 2 (4.01 pH).
    • Press Cal key after the reading of CAL 2 becomes ready.
    • Place the electrode in 3rd buffer.
    • The display then shows Cal 3 (10.01)
    • Press measure key to end calibration.
    • The slope will be displayed and it should be between 92-102.
    • Buffers should be disposed of after calibration.

Note: To avoid Contamination, transfer the required amount of buffer into a clean dry beaker and discard the solution after Calibration is completed.

  • In case of unavailability of commercial buffers prepare the buffers as per given Format–II and calibration readings of the same shall be record in Format-III.
