OBJECTIVE:
To lay down a procedure for calibration of Digital Vernier Caliper.
SCOPE:
This SOP is applicable to the procedure for calibration of Digital Vernier Caliper at {Company Name} {Location}.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Officer/Executive/Designee: shall be responsible for following the procedure as per SOP.
Engineering Head/designee is responsible for compliance of SOP.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
QA Head shall be Accountable for implementation of SOP.
PROCEDURE:
A digital vernier caliper is a precision instrument used to measure the internal and external dimensions of objects. It’s a combination of a traditional vernier caliper and a digital display.
Ensure that the standard Gauge block set is cleaned condition.
Ensure that the standard Gauge block set calibration is within the validity period.
Ensure that the Digital Vernier caliper which is to be calibrated is externally clean.
Follow the procedure of SOP Calibration of Equipments/Instruments before and after completion of the calibration activity.
Calibration frequency shall be followed for Digital vernier caliper/Micrometer as per the master calibration schedule.
Calibration of Digital vernier caliper:
Switch on the digital vernier caliper.
Press the ZERO/ABS button the digital vernier caliper.
Take the Standard gauge Blocks and measure the reading of digital vernier caliper by using Standard Gauge Block, and confirm the thickness displayed is matched with standard.
Compare the readings of both the under calibrating vernier caliper and standard Gauge block.
Take 4 to 5 intermittent readings by following above steps and note down the reading and manual entry format as per follow the SOP.
Calibration of Digital/Analog Micrometer:
Ensure that the Digital/Analog Micrometer which is to be calibrated is externally cleaned condition.
Follow the above calibration procedure of vernier caliper for Micrometer calibration (based on the scale range of Micrometer).
Acceptance criteria for the vernier caliper/Micrometer is ±0.02 mm, if the least count of the instrument is more than the acceptance criteria then its least count shall be taken as a acceptance criteria.
The person who performed the calibration /verification shall sign off the calibration certificate respectively.
Calibration personnel shall file the reviewed calibration certificate with the calibration lab.
Based on the calibration results prepare and Affixes/tag the calibration status label.
