CALIBRATION OF SS SCALE / DIP SCALE / MEASURING TAPE

OBJECTIVE:

To lay down a procedure for Calibration of SS scale/Dip Scale/Measuring Tape.

SCOPE:

This SOP is applicable to the procedure for Calibration of SS scale/Dip Scale/Measuring Tape at {Company Name} {Location}.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Officer/Executive/Designee: shall be responsible for following the procedure as per SOP.

Engineering Head/designee is responsible for compliance of SOP.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

QA Head shall be Accountable for implementation of SOP.

PROCEDURE:

SS Scale (Stainless Steel Scale) is a type of measuring tool, typically used for precision measurements in industrial and engineering applications. It’s made of stainless steel, which makes it durable, corrosion-resistant, and accurate.

Dip Scale (or Dip Tape) is a specific type of measuring tape designed for measuring the depth of liquids in tanks, reservoirs, or other containers. It often features a weighted end (plumb bob) to ensure accurate vertical measurement. Dip scales are commonly used in liquid manufacturing.

Measuring Tape is a more general term for any flexible tool used to measure length. It can be made of various materials like steel, fiberglass, or cloth. Measuring tapes come in different lengths and widths, with metric or imperial units (or both).

Ensure that the standard digital Vernier caliper is in cleaned condition.

Ensure that the standard digital vernier caliper calibration is within the validity period.

Ensure that the SS scale/Dip Scale/Measuring Tape which is to be calibrated is externally clean.

Follow the procedure of SOP Calibration of Equipments/Instruments before and after completion of the calibration activity.

Calibration frequency shall be followed for SS scale/Dip scale/Measuring tape as per the Master calibration schedule.

Standard digital Vernier calipers traceable for calibration of SS scale/Dip scale/Measuring tape.

Standard digital Vernier caliper shall be calibrated once in a year.

Calibration of SS scale / Dip Scale / Measuring Tape:

  • Switch on the standard digital vernier caliper.
  • Press the ZERO/ABS button on the standard digital vernier caliper.
  • Ensure that both the standard digital vernier caliper and the under calibrating SS scale/Dip scale/Measuring tape are check each and every 150 mm (or) above/below 150mm scale as possible to take the 4 to 5 intermediate readings. (Example: scale range is 0 to 1000mm, to be measure the scale 0-150mm, 150-300mm, 350- 500mm, 500-650mm and 850-1000mm like.)
  • Observe and note down the readings in Calibration certificate of SS scale/Dip scale/Measuring tape, as per the format-I.
  • Acceptance criteria for the SS scale/ Dip Scale/Measuring tape is ±1 mm, if the least count of the Instrument is more than the acceptance criteria, then its least count shall be taken as Acceptance criteria.
  • The person who did the calibration /verification shall sign off the calibration Certificate respectively.
  • Calibration personnel shall file the reviewed calibration certificate with the calibration lab.
  • Based on the calibration results prepare the calibration status label and Affix /tag the calibration status label, as per SOP.
