CLEANING AND REPLACEMENT OF UV LAMPS

  • OBJECTIVE:

To lay down a procedure for cleaning procedure of UV Lamps.

  • SCOPE:

This SOP is applicable for cleaning procedure of UV Lamps at {Company Name} {Company Location}.

  • RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Technical Assistant – Engineering is responsible to perform the Cleaning procedure of UV lamps.
  • Executive/ Manager – Engineering is responsible to ensure the compliance as per SOP.
  • ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • PROCEDURE:
  • Note down the intensity meter and hour meter reading in Annexure-I during cleaning activity.
  • Switch OFF the system, before starting the cleaning or replacement of UV Lamps.
  • CLEANING PROCEDURE OF UV SYSTEM
  • Close the feed pump inlet and outlet valves of UV chamber.
    • Remove the tubes (Quartz Glasses) from the chamber by unscrew the cap by rotating in anticlockwise direction.
    • Scrub the inner surface thoroughly with a soft nylon brush.
    • Clean the UV chamber with purified water.
    • Re – fix the tubes (Quartz Glasses) in the chamber by screw the cap by rotating in clockwise direction.
    • Switch ON the UV system and check the intensity not less than the previous reading.
    • Record the cleaning details in as per the Annexure-I.
    • After completion of the cleaning, the label shall be updated on the UV lamps chamber as per Annexure-II.
  • FREQUENCY OF UV LAMPS CLEANING
  • UV lamps cleaning shall be carried out once in three months along with the quarterly preventive maintenance of purified water system.
  • REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE OF UV SYSTEM
  • Close the feed pump inlet and outlet valves of UV chamber.
  • Drain the water in the unit through drain valve.
  • Ensure that the correctly specified lamps are replaced at the time of replacement.
  • Remove the lamps from the chamber by unscrew the cap by rotating in an anticlockwise direction.
  • Take out the UV lamps from the chamber.
  • Replace all the O-rings.
  • Put the new lamp in housing and tighten the holders on both sides by Rotating clockwise direction.
  • Switch ON the power supply and check the load.
  • Open inlet and outlet valves of the feed pump of UV chamber.
  • Record the replacement details in as per Annexure-I.
  • Frequency of UV lamps replacement is as follows.
  • For RO UV system: If burning hour’s crosses9000 or intensity less than47.0 Watt/m2   whichever is earlier.
  • For Distribution UV system: If burning hour’s crosses12000 or intensity less than 41.0 Watt/m2 whichever is earlier.
