HANDLING OF SCRAP IN THE LABORATORY

• OBJECTIVE:

To lay down the procedure for handling scrap in the laboratory.

• SCOPE:

This SOP is applicable for the procedure for handling scrap in the laboratory at {Company Name} {Location}.

• RESPONSIBILITY:
• Officer/Executive/Designee Quality Control – Shall be responsible for following the procedure as per SOP.
• Head/Designee Quality Control – Shall be responsible for ensuring compliance as per SOP.
• ACCOUNTABILITY:

             QA Head shall be Accountable for implementation of SOP.

• PROCEDURE:
• The type of scrap should be distinguished as solid waste, liquid waste, used reagent bottles/broken glassware.
• Solid waste like used papers, powders etc., to be collected in a dustbin.
• Liquid waste like solutions after analysis should be drained in sink followed by plenty of raw water.
• Broken glassware and used reagent bottles to be collected into dustbin.
• The collected scrap from the dustbin shall be transferred into to a poly bag and the same to be transferred into garbage area for destruction.
