- OBJECTIVE:
To lay down a procedure for Medical Examination of Employees.
- SCOPE:
This SOP is applicable for the Medical Examination of Employees at {Company Name} {Company Location}.
- RESPONSIBILITY:
- All employees shall be responsible for Active involvement of individuals as per procedure.
- HR Manager shall Review, technical correction, training & monitoring of SOP.
- ACCOUNTABILITY:
QA Manager shall be accountable for Approval & Implementation of SOP.
- PROCEDURE:
- GENERAL CONDITION OF MEDICAL FITNESS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
- The employment of any employee in the company is subject to the employee being found medically fit by the company designated medical practitioner.
- The continuance in employment thereafter is subject to the employee remaining medically fit at all times (Physically and mentally).
- In case the medical tests reveal an employee suffering or afflicted with any infectious or contagious or communicable disease which is harmful to other persons or which comes in way of the performance of duties by an employee the company has the right to terminate the employment of the employee.
- In case it is revealed that an employee is afflicted with a addict of drug, alcohol or any banned substance the company has the right to terminate the employment of the employee.
- If any curable disease is reported by medical practitioner, employment can be accepted after treatment and getting satisfactory medical report by the medical practitioner.
- PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL EXAMINATION:
- Formal agreement shall be made between the company and registered medical practitioner.
- Before joining the candidate will be directed for a pre-employment medical examination by the company certified medical practitioner.
- Following test to be performed during pre-employment medical examination.
- General examination (Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Pulse)
- Chest X-ray.
- Complete Blood Test.
- Urine (General examination).
- Blood Sugar
- Creatinine
- ECG (Electro Cardio Graphy)
- Eye Test (Vision Check-up)
- Skin Examination
- Test for Tuberculosis
- Test for Pathogens (Salmonella)
- Hormone level test.
- Any test required to confirm any communicable or infectious disease which the person suspected to be suffering from on clinical examination.
- Medical practitioner shall give the fitness certificate.
- Any other special tests or investigations may be carried out or an opinion of a specialist be obtained by the Medical consultation with the HR Manager, the same relevant and essential to determine the medical fitness of a candidate.
- After completion of the medical examination and review of the pathological /other reports, the medical practitioner shall issue certificate declaring the candidate to be medically fit/unfit.
- Jaundice, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, sore throat with fever, visibly infected lesions, (boils, cuts or sores) and discharges from ear, eye or nose. Medical examination of employee shall be carried out apart from the periodic medical examination.
- After getting a satisfactory medical report HR officer/executive shall complete the further joining formalities.
- In case the person seeking the job in the company is declared to be medically unfit or affected by communicable/ contagious diseases, shall not be considered for employment in the company.
- PERIODIC MEDICAL EXAMINATION:
- Periodic medical examination shall be conducted on yearly basis for each employee from the date of joining.
- Periodic medical examination schedule as per Annexure-I shall be prepared for all employees and accordingly they shall visit medical practitioner for the same.
- Periodic medical examination should not be differing more than one month from the scheduled date.
- Following test to be performed during periodic medical examination.
- General examination (Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Pulse)
- Chest X-ray.
- Complete Blood Test.
- Urine (General examination).

- Creatinine
- ECG (Electro Cardio Graphy)
- Eye Test (Vision Check-up)
- Skin Examination
- Test for Tuberculosis

- Any test required to confirm any communicable or infectious disease which the person suspected to be suffering from on clinical examination.
- Medical practitioner shall give the fitness certificate.
- In case, doctor advise to any employee to remain away from work due to illness, employee has to undergo proper treatment and resume the duty after getting medical fitness certificate from the medical practitioner.
- In case if doctor found employee to be suffering from contagious or communicable disease, employee shall not be allowed in the plant and has to undergo proper treatment and resume the duty after getting medical fitness certificate from the medical practitioner.
- Any further related tests might be performed if there is any abnormality detected after the above tests.
- After completion of the medical examination (as per frequency) and review of the pathological /other reports, the medical practitioner shall issue certificate declaring the candidate to be medically fit/unfit.
- PROCEDURE FOR REPORTING OF UNSATISFACTORY HEALTH CONDITION AND PREVENTIVE ACTION THERE ON:
- An employee away from his duties on grounds of sickness exceeding 3 days shall be required to send a medical certificate from the Doctor / ESI medical officer attending to him, certifying the nature of sickness and likely period of abstention on account of the sickness.
- If any of the employees is found unsuitable to carry out the allotted work to him from medical point of view, reassign the suitable job to him. After treatment affected employees shall be re-examined and only after complete fitness, he/she be allowed to work in the sensitive area.
- The employee should report any boils, skin eruptions, sores, open wounds, lesions or rashes on the exposed surface of the body to his immediate superior.
- In case, if employee found himself suffering from any illness or communicable disease report to concerned department Manager immediately.
- Department Manager immediately inform to HR department for illness of concerned employee for further action.
- HR department immediately contact the diseased employee and ask to visit the doctor for treatment.
- In case if doctor found employee to be suffering from contagious or communicable disease, employee shall not be allowed in the plant and has to undergo proper treatment and resume the duty after getting medical fitness certificate from the medical practitioner.
- After getting a satisfactory medical report employees shall be resume his/her duty as per assigned job responsibility.
