PROCEDURE FOR OPERATION OF FOAM TYPE FIRE EXTINGUISHER

• OBJECTIVE:

•  To describe a standard operating procedure for operation of Foam Type Chemical Fire Extinguisher.

• SCOPE:

• This Procedure is applicable for operation of Foam Type Chemical Fire Extinguisher at {Company Name} {Company Location}.

• RESPONSIBILITY:

• All the employees working in the plant.
• Safety In-charge

• ACCOUNTABILITY:

• QA Manager shall be accountable for Approval & Implementation of SOP.

• PROCEDURE:

• Definition: Fire Extinguisher: A fire extinguisher is a device used to put out fire, often in an emergency

• The Foam Extinguisher can be used for extinguishing the B class Fires involving Liquids like Diesel, Petrol, Furnace Oil, Solvents etc.

• When the fire breaks out from the liquids take the foam type chemical fire extinguisher, which is provided, in the immediate vicinity of the area.

• After reaching near to the fire, shake the Extinguisher up and down. Repeat it 2 or 3 times to ensure the proper uniform mixing of the AFFF inside the cylinder.

• Punch the knob of the extinguisher the foam jet coming out of the Extinguisher should be pointed towards the inner edge of the vessel/tank or on the liquid spillage and a blanket layer has to be formed over the liquid on fire.

• The empty Extinguishers shall be kept in lay down position after use and the SHE Department should be informed.

• The SHE Department shall get it refilled and a spare shall keep it ready for further use.

• This Foam type Extinguisher should not be used on the Electrical Fires
