CLEANING AND STERILIZATION OF GLASSWARE USED IN MICROBIOLOGY

• PROCEDURE:

• CLEANING OF GLASS WARE:
• Wash the glassware first with potable water and then with the soap solution.
• Wash the glassware in running water until free from the traces of soap solution.
• Finally rinse the glassware with purified water.
• Dry the glassware in Hot Air Oven at 60°C for one hour.
• STERILIZATIONOF GLASS WARE:
• Wrap the mouth of glassware such as conical flask and bottles with Kraft paper/Crepe Paper.
• Materials like Petri dishes and pipettes shall be wrapped in Kraft paper/Crepe Paper.
• Stick the chemical indicator tape on the glassware to be sterilized.
• Sterilize the glassware in autoclave and operate the autoclave as per the SOP.
• Sterilize the glassware as per the validated cycle.
• Label the sterilized articles as per Format-I.
• Sterilized glassware shall be used within 72 hrs., if not used within the specified time, shall be re- sterilized before use.
