  • PROCEDURE FOR THE DISPOSAL OF CULTURES AND CONTAMINATED MEDIA:
DISPOSAL OF CULTURES AND CONTAMINATED MEDIA
  • Microbiologically contaminated Media include Petri plates, test tubes, flasks containing Solid or liquid media that contain microorganisms inoculated or isolated from the test samples and microbial pure cultures.
  • Decontaminate the Petri plates, test tubes, flasks etc. in autoclave at 121°C for 30 minutes.
  • After autoclaving transfer the media to a closed container/biohazards disposable bag and wash the glassware immediately.
  • After washing pour the disinfectant solution in the washbasin, so as to disinfect the drain.
  • Washed glassware’s shall be rinsed twice with purified water.
  • Plastic disposables shall be discarded in the garbage only after proper sterilization.
  • The entire garbage shall be send to SHE Department for deposal through acknowledgement.
